In a press conference held in Kindu last Wednesday, Senator Matata Ponyo confirmed his candidacy for the December 2023 presidential election in the DRC. This press briefing was an opportunity for the former Congolese Prime Minister to present his societal project.
A professor of economics, former finance minister and prime minister, anticipates a budget of 90 billion US dollars should the Congolese people decide to give him a chance to seek a term at the supreme magistracy.
“… Over the next five years, a total budget of 90.9 billion US dollars will be needed to finance various development initiatives. This means an average annual budget of 18.2 billion US dollars. Development financing will require rigorous budget management and an uncompromising fight against corruption to ensure that each Congolese franc from the public treasury is effectively used for the general interest,” Matata Ponyo indicated.
According to the former Prime Minister, these funds will be mobilized by tax pressure if he is elected president of the Republic. Moreover, in his societal project, the man in the red tie also promised reforms and the fight against corruption in revenue mobilization, while reducing the lifestyle of political institutions.
