Combatting Food Insecurity in South Kivu: Kaziba’s chief calls on residents to promote agriculture

On Sunday, August 6, 2023, during the “Mubande culturelle”, a ceremony organized by the chiefdom of Kaziba, in the territory of Walungu (South Kivu), for the blessing of the seed, Mwami Dirk Chimanye, called on the inhabitants of this part and the entire province to promote agriculture in order to fight against poverty and food insecurity, which has been rampant in the country, especially in South Kivu, recently.

During this ceremony, which took place at the royal palace of Kaziba, in the presence of thousands of people who came for the cause, the Reverend Pastor Karubandika Bashizi, who was prepared for this prayer, asked God Almighty to bless the seeds in order to have an abundant production during this coming agricultural season and thus fight against the food insecurity that is rampant in this chiefdom.

Mwami Majiri Chimanye believes that the promotion of agriculture, which remains the main activity for the survival of the population, will once again boost the economy of this region. He thus calls on his constituents to get to work to exploit the fields inherited from ancestors to avoid dependence on other entities.

However, this authority pleads for the rehabilitation of agricultural service roads in this area. The ceremony ended with the distribution of seeds to heads of groups, localities, community leaders, and the population who took part.
