The issue of climate justice and human rights in the African mining sector is taking on new dimensions with the recent workshop in Lusaka. Organized by key stakeholders such as ACCA, CMAA, and ZAW, from July 9 to 10, 2024, this event brought together experts and committed lawyers to tackle crucial challenges for the environment and local communities.
The first day of the workshop featured in-depth discussions and exchanges on various critical aspects. Participants explored regulatory frameworks for climate and environmental justice, focusing notably on the impact of extracting critical minerals in Africa. Specific attention was given to regulations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, highlighting human and indigenous rights, as well as sustainable mining practices in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
