Congolese comedian Marlène Longange passed away on the night of August 10th at Nganda Hospital in Kintambo after a long illness. She had been hospitalized since mid-July 2023 due to breast cancer and pulmonary embolism.
Despite the concerning state of her health, attempts were made by the Association of Film Professionals to seek assistance from the Minister of Culture, Arts, and Heritage, Catherine Kathungu, in order to transfer Longange abroad for appropriate treatment. Unfortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful.
Known as “the giant of the stage,” Marlène Longange was a talented and respected artist in the theater and cinema world of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Her sharp gaze and tiger-like reflexes on stage earned her national renown.
She also shone in several films, including “Viva Riva” directed by Djo Munga in 2010, for which she won the Best Supporting Actress award at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in Nigeria.
Despite her significant contributions to the Congolese film industry, Marlène Longange could not receive the appropriate care to fight her illness. Her death is a tragic loss for the entertainment world in the DRC. The Congolese artistic community is in mourning, and numerous tributes are being paid to this talented actress who left a lasting impression with her exceptional performances and dedication to her craft.

He highlighted her talent and immense contribution to Congolese theater and cinema.
