Goma : Congolese Youth Rise for Climate Thanks to Innovative Project Supported by International Organizations

In North Kivu, in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congolese youth are rising for the climate through an innovative project supported by national and international organizations.

This ambitious project aims to train and equip 20 youth from Goma in climate activism and waste recycling. Its objective is clear: to raise awareness among youth about the crucial issues of climate change, strengthen their activism skills, and encourage them to actively engage in environmental actions. Faced with challenges such as insufficient awareness, lack of activism skills, and low youth engagement in environmental actions, this project positions itself as a catalyst for change. Aligned with international frameworks such as the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it embodies hope for a greener and more sustainable future for the region.

The young participants, trainers, local partners, and community authorities are key actors in this initiative. Youth directly benefit from training and support, while trainers play a crucial role in coordinating activities. Local partners are involved in implementing the waste recycling project, and community authorities oversee activities, ensuring a holistic and sustainable approach.

Project activities include interactive training, practical workshops, and the implementation of a waste recycling project in the local community. By emphasizing awareness, training, and the creation of an activist network, this project contributes to advancing global goals of combating climate change and sustainable development.

Through this inspiring initiative, Goma’s youth are becoming the architects of their own future, demonstrating the power of education and collective action to shape a better world. In a context where every action counts, these young activists embody the promise of a future where preserving our planet is a top priority.
