We are pleased to announce the launch of the call for applications for an innovative project titled “Increasing media capacity to implement the Kunming-Montreal global biodiversity framework in the Democratic Republic of Congo”. This ambitious project, funded by the EARTH Journalism Network and Internews, and implemented by Mkaaji Mpya and Kilalopress, aims to enhance the capacities of local media in the Democratic Republic of Congo to implement the Kunming-Montreal global biodiversity framework adopted in 2022.
Since the adoption of the global biodiversity framework in Montreal in 2022, the need for awareness and engagement towards environmental challenges has never been more crucial. In response to this imperative, this project specifically targets journalists based in Bukavu and Kinshasa, aiming to select 30 professionals passionate about environmental issues. The main objective is to train and equip these journalists to effectively inform the Congolese public about the challenges and opportunities related to biodiversity.
The call for applications opens on July 6, 2024, and will close on July 22, 2024, at 11:59 PM Bukavu time. Interested candidates are invited to apply by submitting their applications through the provided link: Appel à candidatures_MKAAJI MPYA asbl-EJN Internews 2024
Journalist candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in environmental issues and a clear willingness to contribute to public awareness. Previous experience in environmental journalism would be an asset, though motivated beginners are also encouraged to apply. Selection will be based on each candidate’s potential to become an effective agent of change through their journalistic work.
This project not only aims to strengthen the individual capacities of selected journalists but also seeks to multiply impact through enhanced media coverage and increased awareness. By amplifying the voices of local media, we aim to positively influence environmental policies and encourage active participation in the preservation of Congolese biodiversity.
This call for applications represents a unique opportunity for Congolese journalists to play a key role in implementing the global biodiversity framework. We encourage all those passionate about environmental issues to seize this opportunity and contribute to shaping a sustainable future for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
