The community dialogue on preventing discrimination against displaced persons, returnees, and host communities concluded on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, in Lusogho, Rutshuru Territory, North Kivu. This dialogue was facilitated by an international humanitarian organization.
At the end of this two-day dialogue, representatives from local communities in Burundule, Lusogho, Bubishi, Buheri, Iyobora, Bunyamughabwa, and Ndongi in the Kanyabayonga groupement, under the Bwito chieftaincy, committed to living together in cohesion and peaceful coexistence with displaced persons and other returnees.
In the final commitment document signed at the end of this dialogue, as reported by Kilalopress.net, participants pledged to raise awareness among members of their respective communities about the protection of internally displaced persons, promote the dissemination of guidelines on the rights of displaced persons and returnees, and most importantly, facilitate access to arable land and basic services for displaced persons without discrimination.
It is worth noting that this dialogue was organized as part of a project aimed at strengthening the protection of communities in areas affected by displacement in North Kivu and South Kivu. This community project is being implemented by an international humanitarian organization.
