Towards Women’s Political Emancipation in DRC: Resolution 1325 and the Radiance of the Francophone Games 2023

Under a starry sky, the opening ceremony of the Francophonie Games began in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 2023. A captivating spectacle caught the crowd’s attention, featuring a giant robot, a creation of the generator of intelligent rolling Robots Made in DRC, Madame Thérèse Kirongozi.

Madame Kirongozi, an industrial electronics engineer at the Higher Institute of Applied Techniques (ISTA), is a living example of the strength and capabilities of Congolese women. In the stadium, female athletes, representing nearly 40% of the total, also shone through their presence and performances.

While the DRC currently ranks 4th in the medal count, tied with France and Armenia, emphasis is placed on the importance of female contribution, which has played an essential role in achieving these feats.

However, one question remains: if women can excel in sports and engineering, why are they not more represented in the Congolese government?

Currently, only 28.7% women hold governmental positions in the DRC. It’s a start, but it’s essential to go further. Resolution 1325 has proven that women have the ability to shine in all fields, and it’s time for this reality to be reflected in the government as well.

Authorities must take steps to change the lives of Congolese women. More opportunities need to be created for them, not only in sports and technology but also in politics.

”The brilliance of the Francophonie Games in the DRC has shown that women can excel everywhere, and it’s time for the Congolese government to reflect this reality ” Madame Noella PENDEZA confides in the editorial team of Kilalopress.

”Let’s encourage our women, support their efforts and ambitions. Let’s make the DRC an example for the entire world, a nation where every woman has the opportunity to realize her potential, regardless of the field” Exclaims Madame Odile Bulabula from the Organizational Innovation Network RIO.

Whether it’s within the government, in sports, technology, or any other field, women deserve a place at the table. It’s high time we make this dream a reality.
