Prime Minister Jean Michel Sama Lukonde, on behalf of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, concluded on Wednesday, August 16th, at the Palais du Peuple in Kinshasa, the round table on the State of Siege.
In his closing speech, the Congolese Prime Minister stated that all recommendations and conclusions from this round table will be transmitted to the head of state for his final decision. He also emphasized that his government will accompany and support all directives that the President of the Republic will give on this topic.
“You have demonstrated your commitment to the sovereignty of the motherland and the integrity of its territory. On behalf of His Excellency, the President of the Republic, I declare the round table on the State of Siege in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri closed,” he addressed the participants.
During the closing of these proceedings, the participants reiterated the current demand of the population of North Kivu and Ituri, which is the lifting of the State of Siege. They also requested the government to restore the institutions of these two provinces in accordance with the legal constitutional provisions, to strengthen large-scale operations while respecting the unity of command, to revitalize and accelerate the P-DDRCS, in order to take care of the ex-volunteer Militiamen in the peace process.
As a reminder, this round table was launched last Monday by Felix Tshisekedi. For 72 hours, participants provided their opinions in various ways on this State of Siege that has been in effect for over a year in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri.
