An unknown bushfire has destroyed over 10 hectares of forests and crops in the locality of Lusogha, in the Kanyabayonga group, Bwito chieftaincy, in the Rutshuru territory of North Kivu. According to sources, this situation has been observed since the beginning of August 2023.
The alert was raised by the youth council of Lusogha during the celebration of International Forest Day on August 12th. In their alert message, the council blamed rat hunters and uneducated individuals for causing the bushfire.
Kakule Sukutu Nelson, a member of the council, stated that this bushfire has had immeasurable consequences. He mentioned the destruction of fields and crops, as well as the disappearance of wildlife and flora.
This young leader calls on authorities to strengthen environmental education within the community. He urges the population to implement measures to effectively address the harmful consequences of climate change, which require positive actions.
