2023 Women’s World Cup: Africa represented by three nations in the Round of 16

The group stage of the 9th edition of the Women’s World Cup concluded on Thursday, August 3, 2023, with the last two matches of the third round, which saw one of the African representatives, Morocco, dominate Colombia (1-0) and qualify for the next stage.

Thus, at the end of this group stage, Africa finds itself with three nations qualified for the round of 16. These are Nigeria, South Africa, and Morocco, the latest qualifier from the Black Continent, who have had a good record during this group stage. Only Zambia has so far been eliminated due to poor performances during the first two rounds.

On Saturday, August 5, Switzerland will face Spain, then Japan will challenge Norway on Sunday, August 6. The Netherlands will cross paths with South Africa, and Sweden will play against the United States of America. On Monday, August 7, England will be opposed to Nigeria, then Australia will cross paths with Denmark. To conclude this stage on Tuesday, August 8, Colombia will face Jamaica before France plays against Morocco, at the close.
