Luwidja, March 5, 2025 – In a context marked by the challenges of war and insecurity, a glimmer of hope shines in the Luwidja chiefdom, located in the Mwenga territory of South Kivu province. Driven by the initiative of FAB (Foundation for Agriculture and Well-being), an agricultural movement is taking shape, once again demonstrating that land is a valuable resource for the survival and development of the community.
Despite the difficult environment, the people of South Kivu have not given up. With the support of FAB, they are transforming every piece of land into a source of livelihood and hope. The initiative “Turudiye Ku Mashamba” (Let’s Return to the Fields) is no longer just a slogan but a reality that mobilizes hundreds of farmers. The Bagalwa Agro-Pastoral Farm (FAB) conducted a large-scale agricultural activity on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Luhwindja Mululi, in the Mwenga territory. This initiative brought together 325 participants who assisted with plowing, planting corn and beans, as well as weeding cassava. A total of two hectares of land were planted as part of this extensive operation. The event was carried out in partnership with the Redeeming Love Ministries (RLM) organization. By developing labor-intensive activities, FAB is not only fostering job creation but also enhancing food security in the province.
For a long time, agriculture was overshadowed by mining activities, but it is now regaining its rightful place in the province’s development strategy. FAB’s philosophy is centered on the idea of “the soil’s revenge on the subsoil,” a vision aimed at reducing dependence on food imports by harnessing local resources. This approach also restores the land’s role as an economic and social pillar.

The commitment of His Excellency Grégoire Mutshail Mutomb, the Minister of State and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, highlights the recognition of this movement by national authorities. The government’s provision of seeds to FAB South Kivu is an encouraging first step, although the community still hopes for additional support in terms of agricultural tools and infrastructure. With the support of dedicated figures like Mr. Léonard Bagalwa, currently in the United States, FAB continues its ambition of empowering farmers. The initiative goes beyond agricultural production; it also includes the transformation and commercialization of products to major markets such as Kinshasa and Kisangani. This value chain strengthens the prospects for a better future for local producers.
In the face of adversity, the land proves to be a valuable ally. By uniting around agriculture, the people of South Kivu reaffirm their central role in building a sustainable and resilient economy. FAB’s initiative is not just a response to a crisis; it is a vision for the future.
