Kinshasa, March 5, 2024 – In an unprecedented effort to make his municipality cleaner and healthier, the mayor of Ngaliema, Dieumerci Mayibanzi Luanga, launched a large-scale cleaning and sanitation initiative on Monday, March 4, 2024.
The municipality of Ngaliema, like many other regions in Kinshasa, is grappling with major sanitation challenges. Streets littered with waste, clogged drainage systems, and the absence of waste collection services have long been persistent issues for the residents of the municipality.
Recognizing the crucial importance of sanitation for public health and the environment, Mayor Luanga took the initiative to radically transform the appearance of his municipality. The launch of the project on March 4 marks the beginning of an ambitious campaign to make every corner of Ngaliema clean and welcoming.
Mayor Mayibanzi personally oversaw the initial works, starting with key areas such as Mondjiba Avenue, Magasin Roundabout, and Ecuries Avenue. His determination to improve the environment of his municipality does not stop there, stating that this operation will extend to every corner of Ngaliema, with the ultimate goal of adorning the municipality in its “most beautiful attire.”
This bold initiative promises to have a significant impact on the lives of Ngaliema’s residents. In addition to enhancing the aesthetics of the municipality, it will help reduce health risks associated with untreated waste, while strengthening residents’ pride and sense of belonging to their environment.
Mayor Dieumerci Mayibanzi Luanga’s visionary leadership in promoting sustainable environmental practices and his determination to address urban sanitation challenges make him an inspiring example for other local leaders. As the work continues, all eyes are on Ngaliema, hoping to see the emergence of a model of urban development that respects the environment and focuses on the well-being of the community.
