The wind of reconciliation has blown in Kinshasa, bringing the promise of a new era of unity and peace within the Islamic Community of Congo (COMICO). A month after the call for unity launched by the Head of State, the different factions of COMICO decided to embrace peace in a moving reconciliation ceremony held last Saturday.
The ceremony saw mutual requests for forgiveness and hugs, signs of the collective resolution to overcome past differences. According to Idriss Katenga, Secretary General of COMICO, division within COMICO now belongs to history. All Muslims across the country now need to work to bring back peace.
This moment of reconciliation is the culmination of sustained efforts, orchestrated by influential figures like Mr. Amadou Diaby, a member of COMICO, and Ms. Blanche Aminata Kasa, a dedicated Muslim woman.
This call for unity was strongly supported by the President of the Republic during his meeting with the Muslim community on June 28th on the occasion of the Eid el-Kebir festival. He had encouraged Muslims to prioritize unity and peace, emphasizing the importance of the Muslim community in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
After four years of internal divisions, COMICO now seems ready to turn the page and focus on the future. The path to peace has not been easy, with previous attempts at reconciliation failing. However, the collective determination to overcome the past and work for peace and unity seems stronger than ever.
This achievement is a testament to the resilience of the Muslim community of Kinshasa and an inspiration for other communities around the world. It shows that even in the most difficult times, dialogue, forgiveness, and unity can prevail.
