Revenge of the Soil – Minister Grégoire Mutshail Mutomb’s Agricultural Diplomacy Wins Over American Investors

Utah, May 14, 2025 — A wave of hope and renewal is sweeping across the Congolese agricultural sector. On an official mission in the United States since May 12, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Grégoire Mutshail Mutomb, is passionately leading a series of advocacy efforts in salt lake city. His goal: to rally American partners and investors around President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi’s ambitious vision — to make agriculture the new wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

This vision, summed up in the powerful phrase “revenge of the soil over the subsoil,” marks a strategic turning point: to break free from import dependence, boost local production, create jobs, and make food accessible to all Congolese citizens.

And the first fruits of this green diplomacy are already showing. Several American investors, inspired by the opportunities presented, have expressed strong interest in collaborating with the Congolese Ministry. Among the key points discussed: the supply of quality fertilizers, support for local seed production, and, most importantly, joint projects to modernize the Congolese agricultural value chains.

The minister did not undertake this mission alone. He was accompanied by a delegation of representatives from Kinshasa, as well as members of the Congolese diaspora in the United States, including the Honorable Léonard Bagalwa, Chairman of the Board of the Bagalwa Agropastoral Farm (FAB). Together, they powerfully advocated for the Congolese agricultural sector during meetings with investors, U.S. senators, the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints as well as and institutions interested in the DRC’s vast potential.

Reactions were swift: several partners are already planning field visits to the DRC to “see the reality on the ground” and explore ongoing projects. With an agricultural sector already moving toward modernization and expanding technological adoption, the DRC is positioning itself as a land of agricultural opportunity. This mission, hailed as a diplomatic success, is restoring confidence among sector stakeholders and showing that Congolese agriculture is no longer just a dream, but a reality in motion.
